Set rest with both hands relaxed at their closed starting position. Per-hand displacement is measured from that point, so the two hands' contributions can be compared. Rest is captured automatically the first time both hands are seen.

In hand widths, from each hand's own rest point. Equal numbers mean both hands are doing the same amount of the work.

Even contribution picks the nearer chord tone, one hand carrying the work picks the further one. The answering note is placed by the engine's own displacement, not by this page.

Whether tracking holds when the hands are close together is a question about your camera and your setup, so the page measures it: every frame is binned by the last known separation and counted. A high "lost" share in the closest bin is the failure mode to watch for.
